The Absecon Green Team has initiated an effort to remove invasive plants from Heritage park. Day one was June 25th 2023 – and without wanting to sound immodest, we killed it today! Absolutely killed it! We had a super turnout of dedicated rock stars. It was hot and humid, but this deterred no one. In fact, if anything, the group seemed motivated by the humidity!
The focus for June 25th was on learning about and removing two invasive plants that are abundant at the park: Oriental Bittersweet and English Ivy. These vines grow up trees and smother their leaves killing them over time. This can lead to dead hazard trees that are expensive to remove, dangerous, and unsightly. Not good! Additionally, these invasive plants can become habitat for invasive animals, such as spotted lanternflies. Also not good! We made a great start today on our eradication plan. And if you are interested in participating in our next event (and who wouldn’t?), or just want to pass along some thoughts about the project, please reach out to us on our contact page, or facebook page, or if you enjoy the nostalgia and quaintness of a slower slower response, please post a message on paper and hide it under a painted rock in Herritage Park (though, for speediest replies, we would appreciate some hints as to where you have hidden said message).
To help out, we’ll need you to complete this form (below, also). Check back here and on our facebook page for updates! Than you for your support!
